What is an industrial heater

Industrial heaters differ from domestic types in three ways: power (from 5 kW per unit to hundreds of kilowatts in banks), operating conditions (temperature, vibration, aggressive media, explosive atmospheres) and service life (5–10 years of continuous operation versus 2–3 years for domestic grades). These requirements drive entirely different material choices, construction methods and certifications.

In industrial use, a heater rarely operates in an easy "switch on — heat — switch off" cycle. A typical scenario is continuous operation on an extruder where the nozzle temperature is 280 °C and ±5 °C thermal cycling causes mechanical expansion of the body. Or a steam generator with water at 8 bar pressure and 170 °C. Or a plating tank with 10% sulphuric acid, where a standard stainless steel heater dissolves within a month.

TEN-Miass has been supplying industrial heaters since 2010. Among our clients: Gazprom, IKEA, Volgograd International Airport, AHMAD TEA, and hundreds of medium and large manufacturers worldwide.

Classes of industrial heaters

Flanged heater blocks (SEV/SEM)

On threaded or bolt flange. For steam and hot-water boilers, tanks, vessels. Up to 100 kW per assembly, length up to 3 m.

Ceramic band heaters

For extruders and injection moulding machines at temperatures up to 750 °C. Watt density 8 W/cm², diameters 50–380 mm.

Finned air heaters

For air-handling units, drying chambers, air curtains. Banks of 9–50 kW, up to 700 °C with Incoloy sheath.

High-watt cartridge heaters

For moulds and casting equipment. Watt density up to 50 W/cm² (323 W/in²) with H7 fit.

Titanium heaters

For plating tanks and acid solutions. Withstand 10% H₂SO₄, salt solutions, seawater.

Cast flat heaters

For injection moulding machines and extruders. High thermal mass, vibration resistance, Ex-rated versions available.

Materials for industrial applications

In industrial use, standard AISI 304 stainless steel is not always adequate — temperature, chemistry or mechanical load requires specialised alloys and coatings.

  • AISI 316L — molybdenum-bearing stainless steel. Resistant to chlorides (seawater, food brines);
  • 12X18N10T (321 equivalent) — titanium-stabilised food-grade stainless. For dairies, breweries, pharmaceutical;
  • Incoloy 800/825 — nickel alloy, stable to 900 °C. For aluminium casting, steel heat treatment;
  • Inconel 600/625 — maximum heat resistance up to 1000 °C. Hardening furnaces, burners;
  • Titanium Grade 2 — corrosion resistance in acids. Plating, chemical industry;
  • PTFE (Teflon) coating — for concentrated sulphuric acid and other aggressive media;
  • Zinc coating — anti-corrosion protection for carbon steel in food industry environments.

Typical industrial applications

Over 15 years we have supplied industrial heaters across dozens of industries. Representative case studies:

  1. Electric boiler for district heating — 6 SEV blocks at 30 kW each, AISI 316 stainless, operating in demineralised water;
  2. Extruder for food film production — 12 ceramic band heaters 200×80 mm, 2.5 kW each, 380 V, continuous operation at 220–260 °C;
  3. 8-cavity injection mould — 48 cartridge heaters Ø 12×80 mm with Type K thermocouples, hot runner calculation for each cavity;
  4. Industrial timber drying chamber — bank of finned heaters totalling 45 kW, stainless fin material (humid environment);
  5. Chrome electroplating line — titanium heaters with PTFE coating for a 500 L tank at 55 °C;
  6. Air curtain on factory gate — 3 heater banks of 12 kW each with finned elements, activated by gate-open sensor;
  7. Hydraulic oil tank — SEM 9 kW (oil heater block, carbon steel) with thermowell;
  8. Pharmaceutical pasteurisation — 12X18N10T heater with polished surface, SIP-cleanable design;
  9. Process bath heating — 5 immersion heaters 6 kW in an 800 L tank with sacrificial magnesium anode.

Special versions

Industrial tasks often require versions beyond the standard construction. We manufacture:

  • ATEX / explosion-proof versions — for zones with flammable gases and dust. Reinforced enclosure, IECEx certification;
  • With thermowell for sensor — a dedicated tube for fitting a thermocouple or PT100 without media contact;
  • With sacrificial magnesium anode — scale protection in hard water; standard for water heaters;
  • With anti-vibration mounting — for high-vibration equipment (compressors, crushers);
  • With reinforced terminal seal — for subsea and marine applications (IP68);
  • Split band heaters — removable without dismantling the machine;
  • Multi-zone — separate heating zones with independent control;
  • Non-uniform power distribution — to compensate heat losses at nozzle and fitting zones.

How to order an industrial heater

For calculation and production of an industrial heater we need complete information about your process:

  • Equipment type (boiler / tank / extruder / dryer / bath / other);
  • Heating medium and its parameters (pH, composition, pressure, temperature);
  • Required power and duty cycle (continuous / cyclic);
  • Supply voltage and phase configuration;
  • Mounting interface (drawing, photo, sketch);
  • Certification requirements (GOST, IECEx, food-grade).

Engineering consultation is free. Based on your data we propose the optimal construction, select material and calculate power. Lead time 3–5 days from 1 piece. Worldwide shipping via DHL, FedEx, SDEK. 1 year warranty on all products. Regular supply contracts with fixed pricing are available for industrial customers.

FAQ

How does an industrial heater differ from a domestic one?

In three parameters: higher power (5–100 kW per unit vs 1–6 kW for domestic), high operating temperature (up to 700 °C for ceramic band heaters), and resistance to aggressive media (titanium, Incoloy, Inconel instead of ordinary stainless steel).

Which heaters suit extruders and injection-moulding machines?

Ceramic band heaters (up to 700 °C) — for heating barrels and dies. Cartridge heaters with a type-K thermocouple — for moulds and hot-runner systems. All with thread, flange or bolt mounting to drawing.

Is an Ex (explosion-proof) version possible for hazardous areas?

Yes, per IEC and ATEX standards. Used in petrochemical plants, gas installations, and zone 1 and 2 hazardous areas. A certificate of conformity is provided separately.

What is the service life of industrial heaters in heavy-duty conditions?

It depends on the medium and duty cycle. Ceramic band heaters up to 700 °C — 5,000–10,000 hours. Flanged block heaters for 100 kW boilers with proper water — 20,000+ hours. Titanium heaters for plating — 15,000+ hours.

Can you design a heater for a non-standard task?

Yes. We calculate for the specific process: specify the working medium, temperature, pressure, heat-loss power and cycle frequency. We select the material, shape, watt density and mounting type. Lead time for non-standard items — 5–7 days.

Do you supply under contracts and wholesale?

Yes. We work with tenders and wholesale supply. From 50 pcs — 5% discount, from 100 pcs — 10%, from 500 pcs — 15%. Staged payment, shipment in batches on the customer's schedule, and accounting documents are available.
